New dome for Imam Hussein’s (AS) shrine is currently in development at a workshop in Iranian province of Kerman.
A Thursday local media report said in term of altitude, the new dome for third Muslim Imam will be higher than the old structure, adding the new one is 7 meters taller.
Sponsored by benefactors, the project has become operationalized thanks to efforts on the part of experts with Kerman Holy Shrines Restoration Committee.
Over a century and a half has passed since the last restoration of the dome for Imam Hussein’s (AS) shrine.
Imam Hussein (PBUH) and 72 of his loyal companions, including his family members, were martyred on Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram, in the battle of Karbala against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, in 680 AD.
A great number of pilgrims annually visit Imam Hussein’s (AS) shrine and pay homage to the “Master of Martyrs.”
